Default Offshore fishing out of grand chenier

Hey yall! I will be staying in Grand Chenier from July 6-20. Hopefully the weather allows me to run offshore some of those days. I have a 24ft Ranger bay with about a 40 mile range. May try to find the calcasieu rocks and fish them, and plan on trying north and south oil city. I would really like to catch some ling as I have only caught one in my life. Plus it looks as if snapper season will be closing on the 10th. I had coordinates for the rocks but couldnt find them last year. North and south oil city I have always heard about but never been to. Can someone tell me about going to these areas? Has anyone fished out of GC lately? Any info is appreciated as always. Thanks and good fishing to you all!!

Should be no prob getting snapper. If you hit the west cam blocks there are more rigs and may be able to find some ling. About 50 miles south of Cameron there are a line of well head single stands that are usually pretty good to find a ling or 10 on. You'll just have to do a little bouncing around til you find em. I trolled one of those well heads one day and brought up about 20 ling.

Thanks for the response DAWG! 50 miles may be a little bit out of my range. I do know what you mean about fishing the single pole platforms for ling. Seems like the smaller platforms always hold ling. I know snapper will not be a problem to find. They are everywhere! Almost a neuisance. Ill probably just head towards where Im showing the most rigs at on my map and rig hop in hopes of finding some ling and mangroves. Hopefully we will find a good weedline and catch some dodo's. Who knows! Thats the exciting part about fishing offshore!

I prefer fishing in the East Cameron blocks cause they get less pressure than the west cameron blocks. Finding Calcasieu Rock is hard to do even with coordinates. A good bottom graph is necessary. Also calm seas allow you to see the bubbles coming up from the sea floor. you should be able to get some snapper around 30 miles or so.

Fished out if grand chenier 2 weekends ago. Great fishing but I was real disappointed about the rigs that aren't there anymore. I know the West Cameron block (old stopping grounds) is bad enough but out of Grand Chenier?!...you better have some coordinates or a lot of fuel. Looks like a ghost town out there. Sure wish somebody could give me a strait answer on why they have demoed so many?!?!? Heard some talk but no one is for sure.

You can also find calcaieu rocks by looking for the boats. I've seen that place look like long point before lol.
