Whatever the class cost plus, the cost of the passport photo...did my own, the cost of the fingerprinting..$10.00, and $125.00 for a five year permit.

Class prices vary... in addition to the class price, there is a fee of $125 paid to the state for a first time registration.

If you guys would please consider him, I would appreciate it:

Ricky Benoit
337-821-7775

Ricky is one of the owners of B&T Firearms Training in Jennings. He is a full time Jennings Police officer (supervisor) and does this as supplemental income.

He has a class 8/25/12 in Jennings and I think his class is $125, but you need to confirm. I sent my wife through his class and he is a very good instructor. I have to go through him for my certifications since he is our gun guy and always end up learning something new from him.

My advice is to not take the same class over again, take the class from another good instructor. I have been through 5 classes, 4 different instructors and I picked up something in all of them, even the one that they guy was not following the law and got shut down. Any good instructor will tell you the same thing, even good instructors take other instructors class.

I sure didn't pay for all of them, 3 didn't cost anything, one was $75, the other was $50.

I took mine at Hunters Supply on kirkman. It was $125 for the class and then the license is $125. It's $175 if you haven't been a Louisiana resident for 15 consecutive years. There's an application packet on the Louisiana State police website that you have to fill out. You'll need a passport type photo and fingerprints. All the instructions are in the packet. You'll also have to have a few documents notarized.

When I first took the class several year ago I mailed all the stuff in. MONTHS later got a letter saying something was wrong with my fingerprints. Well before I could get it all taken care of the time frame for the class had lapses. A buddy of mime drove to BR to do it all and had his perment in just over 30 days. Might be something to think about for those of who who plan on taking it.

If you use the Cop in Dequincy he helps you fill it all out and takes care of fingerprints in order to help with red tape

Or just get an out of state Florida concealed carry permit. Cost somewhere around $125 if I remember correct. All u need is hunters ed card passport photo, and fingerprints. No classroom. And its good in LA.

This information is wrong, a Louisiana Resident with an out of state Florida permit cannot conceal carry with the Florida permit within Louisiana. Louisiana residents MUST have a LOUISIANA CHP to carry a concealed handgun outside of their private property in the state of Louisiana.

Some of the BEST instructors in the state are:

Alan from Geaux Shootin in Prairieville
Pablo from Estrada Tactical in Breaux Bridge
Barret from Bearco Training in Mandeville

I wouldn't go to just any class, go to a class where you are going to learn something. I have been through classes about 5 times and not all classes are created equal. I only needed the class twice, the extras where freebies or "audits", usually I would demo some holsters or something. If you are in the Baton Rouge area, go with Alan, I love his outdoor range set up, he takes you out into Alligator Bayou where he owns some private land with a range set up and does the qualifier, if you tell him ahead of time and that you want to have some fun after the class, if possible he makes arrangements to have some fun after class.

After class was over we shot USPSA qualifier style courses, brought out the AR15's and did a little "Plinking". Poor bowling pins.

Pablo is a great choice for the Western part of the state.

Then Troop D gives wrong information out. My brother in law and best friend have O/S Florida permit and carry in LA and Texas.

Thanks for the info kcinnik. I'll be taking the class with Pablo next week. A friend of mine suggested him. He said he's a great teacher. I just hope it's better than the last class I took in the Lafayette area. Hours of sitting in a class and 5 minutes on the range. I was very disappointed to say the least.

I know this thread is very old but how did you like the class with Pablo? I'm looking for somewhere in or close to lafayette to get my permit very soon.
