I do not want to rain on anbodys' parade or spoil a good time, however I must speak. I have been duck hunting for over 45 years. I love the sport, live for it and I encourage introducing youth to the sport. I too have a son and grandson that hunt with me. When I was young, my father introduced me duck hunting and I was always given 1st opportunity to limit out. This made it clear as to the number & type of birds I actually killed. After reaching my limit, I was made to unload and case my gun and observe my father hunting and attempt to fill his limit. Many times his opportunity to fill his limit did not come due to him giving me the lead and this was OK with him. His enjoyment came from not only watching me shoot but teaching me the proper game laws. The limit is a per-person limit, not total of birds, per people in the blind no matter who shoots them. It is also a daily limit, so you are not supposed to limit in the morning then do the same that afternoon (I'm not saying anybody here did that). With this being said, and with the anti-hunting groups and anti-gun groups looking for any reason to stop us from participating in this sport I love so dearly, it is extremely important that we teach our young hunters etheics and the proper and legal way to obtain limits within the game laws. It should not lessen the enjoyment of the sport and my son, who is now 24, will tell you some of his best times hunting with me was after him finishing his limit, sitting back, talking with me, calling birds for me and watching me miss. (Or sometimes hit) So please for the sake of our sport teach your up and coming new hunters the correct and legal way to obtain their limits. It truly is important. It may eventually mean the survival of our sport. Quality of the hunt not quantity of the kill is what I was taught. Thank you for listening.
