Default Grand Isle & West Wind

Taking the wife and kids down there Friday-Sunday. Coastal Marine report for that region is predicting the wind to die down by Friday, only 5-10k, however, it's reporting a west wind.

I used to fish Grand Isle a whole lot in jr. high and high school. Caught lots of limits, even just fishing off the pier at night under a light.

But I always remember the old-timers and residents saying a west wind was absolute horrible for fishing in GI.

Is there a particular reason a west wind makes for poor fishing conditions in GI, even if it's a calm wind (5-10mph)?

There looks to be good tide movement for this weekend, so seeing the wind direction and remembering what the veterans down there used to tell me has me kind of bummed.

Thanks.

Go fishing. It doesn't matter. There is always a place in GI to get out of it. Them old timers also think bags of water repel flys. Some areas I'm sure aren't good on west wind. Fish the south west side of the islands in barataria bay. They on fire down there. Good luck.

5-10 ain't bad unless you fish big lake cuz that means 15-20.

Thanks. Still definitely going fishing regardless. Kids are looking forward to it. Staying at family camp on the Caminada before crossing bridge. Won't have a boat to fish islands, but never needed one when I was younger and used to go down often.

Going to fish under the light at night and behind Elmer's in a little flat bottom in the am with my oldest little one. I figure in that cove of Elmer's, wind shouldn't be a factor.

Oh... and about the bags with water. Always remember those old-timers swearing by that.

I'd love to know how the science works. Water + Plastic = Magic I guess.
