Better have you a 5:1 ratio reel with a MH looong stout rod. They will work you. 10lb or 12 lb fluoro. I have always used 10lb seagar abrasion resistant with no problems.

I just cant see spending that kind of cheddar for a crankbait... i go through 6XDs like it aint nothing. guaranteed to lose 1 per trip lol. at $17 a pop that bait better catch a 8lber per trip. The 6XD will touch down to 22 feet if you chunk it far enough.

I don't want to throw bigger than 12 because I'm gonna be throwing other cranks with the same rod. And the other cranks optimum performance is with 12# line. Smell what I'm stepping in? I want to get away with using one rod.

He gets on a kick and it usually lasts about 3 years. For the passed 48 months he been throwing swim baits because 4 yrs ago we came out second in a tournament using swim baits. Lol! Now he wants to throw 10XDs

Why not throw it on braid with a limber rod???
Or have a GOOD lure retriever. |

Hard to say what rod would be best for a 2oz crankbait!

Tried other cranks with braid and they don't perform as well as with flouro. I mainly want to know the 12# line hinders the action any. I know the line can handle the lure. Hell I've caught plenty 5 pounders on 12# line. And that's heavier than the lure. As far as hanging it up and losing it.... you gonna do that with any line 10,12,14,16 or 20. Unless you have a damn good retriever!

Yea I feel ya. I throw mine on 14# with a skeet Reese s glass crankin rod. It's not near enough rod for the 10xd I have to lob it pretty easy but that sucker still goes a mile

buddy of mine built one since he fishes alot of cranks.
he used an old reel mounted on a old rod, cut off at the eye closest to the reel, with some nylon string and bought one of the retrievers at Academy that look like a fish with two big rings under it..... works very good |

I don't think the retractable retrievers will reach a lure that's 20' down? I use the lure hound on a old reel as mentioned above and 9/10 I get my cranks back.
