Kings truck stop on 190 between Opelousas and Port Barre has good inexpensive diner food. If you like boudin stop at Borques supermarket in Port Barre. They have the best boudin and cracklin in my opinion

190 is the best route, get on at 415. Speed traps are Livonia, krotz springs, and port barre all 3 towns are 45mph. Only other trap is pointe coupee parish which 190 is 55 mph (erwinville-krotz springs). Just pay attention and you won't have any problems. It's about an hour from 415 to Opelousas.

If you are coming from east of BR, it's quicker to take the "new bridge" and exit hwy 415/lobdell exit. Take 415/lobdell north to 190w.
To take 190/airline through BR and cross the "old bridge" is nasty with traffic lights and car traffic.
Not yo mamas in livonia has great food and huge portions...

Stan.....I am going to disagree on the Hwy 190 route being the "Best" and I drove this road not long ago.

Yes, taking US 190 is 10 miles [just guessing] closer. But I think staying on I-10 to Lafayette and then going north on I-49 would be just about the same driving time and an easier drive.

Interstate traffic can be very slow going through BR, so avoid 7-9 AM and 4-6 PM times, and hope there is not a wreck.

Also.....FYI, I drove from BR to Lake Charles [7:30 to 9:30 PM] this evening. I saw Sherriff cars in 6 different places between the Atchafalaya basin bridge and Lake Charles, all watching the traffic.

That's the way my gps routed it...thru Laffy...and that's the way my wife suggests we go. But, she ain't drivin'. This means I gotta go across that slow, long-azz bridge.

Last time I went to Big Lake, it took about 3 1/2 hours to get to Laffy. That would make the trip 4 1/2 hours or so going that way. Gotta be farther than 10 miles difference?

Katc just posted that the old bridge was closed. Not sure what direction traffic flow was restricted but you may want to check it on it before you head that way

Dude Stay on I-10 to Laf.. Take 1-49 to Opel. U only talking about 15 minutes from I-10. If U take old 190... Speed traps along the way..

There several good restaurants... For Lunch. RAY's.. Or "Back IN TIME" near court house...

Several good restaurants at race track.. Good Buffet's for night..

Come on now, need to "pack heat" to go to Opelousas? Man it must suck going through life scared all the time.

I agree on taking I-10 to I-49, it's only about 20 minutes from Lafayette to Opelousas.

I used to eat lunch often at a place called Kelly's Meat Block. It's a combo butcher shop/plate lunch place. Good stuff.

Might want to consider The Steamboat Warehouse in Washington for supper. One of my favorites, about 15 minutes or less north of Opelousas up I-49. Not far off interstate. Hope you can open it. Love the Gangplank... crawfish etouffee on top of a ribeye on top of a piece of homemade bread. Most entrees are $15 to $20. Great stuff!

Well, we made it there and back. Hotel was nice and the food we ate was a knockout. We ate at Steamboat Warehouse and at Blackberry's inside the casino. I can attest that the Catfish Lizzy and Steamboat Gang Plank at the Warehouse and the stuffed flounder and blackened tilapia at Blackberry's are excellent. The folks in that area were very friendly and neither of us got mugged.
