I know if you want a well trained dog contact Ken Vidrine in Opelousas, amazing what he does with a dog. He is straight forward and you get what you pay for. No I am not Ken but he did very well with my pup. 351-1538

Had a chocolate lab show up at my blind at shooting time Saturday. Laid down next to the blind and went picked up all our birds. Left him there after the hunt. Didn't have to throw one rock.

Google "Rock Dog Trainers" and post how many and location of kennel. Failing to use a qualified trainer is like kicking Mike Tellich out the bid process for your new 10,000 sq FT house in favor of Jaun Valdez and Julio Jimenez carpentry.

For the first time EVER, I agree with w. What makes a "qualified trainer" a "qualified trainer"? Self declaration? Is there a trainer qualification school out there?

I grew up on shrimp and crab boats as a boy and teenager, I was promoted to master baiter within a few years.

When I started training dogs I immediately promoted myself to Master Trainer, because I train them to run "blinds".

Oh, you ask what do I mean by "blinds"? Long story....

Its just like being a fishing guide. A captain's license does not qualify a person to take money in exchange for a fishing trip. Its a matter of opinion as to whether someone is a good guide or a good trainer. There are trainers with amazing track records that I would not let pet my dog. Likewise, there are guides that can out fish most guides that I wouldn't give a penny to for a trip. The thing that qualifies a person to be a pro trainer is their ability to get people to pay them for their services and to come back and recommend that trainer to others because they are pleased with the outcome.

Its nothing like a fishing guide....We pay over $2000 and $250 a year there after for a Capt License which you have to have qualifications to get that license..

So NO its in NO way shape or form like a fishing guide what so ever

and having a Capt License " Does qualify for us to take people fishing for money"

It qualifies you to drive a boat safely with paying customers in it... doesn't mean you are a professional fisherman. In NO way shape or form does your license mean you are a good fisherman.

ducktrickster is right. its the same concept. Lots of good bull $h itters getting paid to train dogs and take people fishing...

According to the AKC the only qualification that is needed to be a professional retriever trainer is that you receive money or goods to train a dog. Some people supplement their hunting expenses and train 1 or 2 gun dogs part time for local hunters and some people get neck deep into it and have 20+ dogs and travel all over the country running trials and training full time.
