there'd be a TON more birds overall, but drastically less migrators.

I would love to see us go to 1 zone with 2 splits. I think having 3 zones is ridiculous and probably political. My guess is some people have property in all 3 zones and if so this year you could hunt from Nov 9 till Jan 26 or 79 days(if you have property in the coastal and east zones I think it's 74 days). Also, the Feds won't allow hunting after Jan 31 so the state has no controll over that but they do controll the zones and dates within the Federal boundaries.

I disagree. If no hunting was allowed to be done over standing crops then it would not benefit the Midwest hunters/lodges to plant crops with the sole purpose of keeping ducks. Corn would only be planted to harvest which would be done before duck season. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I heard that the reason we did not have as many ducks was because they did not save enough widgeon grass behind the weirs this summers
So this year they will close them off year round should bring in way more birds when they find out the widgeon grass is back

Actually, there is a thread on another forum started by someone who hunts that specific area you are referring to and the title is something like 'worst season ever', says the marsh looked better than it ever has

But we will never stop corn farming. But there is a chance of stopping planting for other purposes than food for people.

If numbers aren't supporting it, why would more killing be necessary? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree on going back to 2 zones.. State is not big enough to have 3 zones. Stupidest thing I have ever seen. Another thing is these birds are getting hammered from Canada all the way down. The birds can't handle the pressure they will find a safe place to be..... My experience the last 2 seasons is one day you go and shoot 5 to 6 limits easy with birds moving all morning, then go back the next day and not see 20 ducks fly around. You just have to hunt the fronts and pray they show up......

Would numbers support opening the season now? Do numbers say we have way to many ducks and need to thin more than we are? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Best I've seen is people blaming rice farmers
we're not trying to make a living here or anything. |

Are you saying the ducks are just showing up now? If so I disagree. Same thing happens every year when the season ends. During the season the birds find a way to survive and avoide the areas that have heavy pressure. They raft up in big water or go to the preserves and become mostly nocturnal. After the season when all the noise from boats, 4 wheelers guns, etc stops they return to the fields and marsh. I don't think they are migrating down this late in the year. I would like to see the season the Sat before thanksgiving and have 1 zone at most 2. Having 3 zones in a state this size doesn't make sense.

You slaughtered limits all season though. Your lease had nearly 700 in the first split Just playing devils advocate Nobody will ever be happy. Based on the season extension theory, way more birds would be killed. The , limits would drop and everyone would be at arms over limit changes. Then in 15 years we will start having hard fronts in November and weak ones in January-February, and the next generation will be blaming face paint and Mojo Drones for messing up bird hunting. Some years you got birds, some years you don't. Crops change, weather changes, water changes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hell yea we blame y'all! Loosing up those combines a lil bit. Those ducks need a lil more waste grain. And while your at it. Open up that hooper when you pass by our blinds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
