That's cause they don't cook the okra down enough. Cooking down okra is an all day affair. If it's done right, there should be no slime at all.

Sometimes I use okra but I use a small amount to get that flavor but it doesn't slime it up.

I use okra in my gumbo and get very little slime. just have to use some slime be gone.

I agree.. Cook first...It is an all day affair.. Chopped onion, fresh garden tomatoes.. I found a lady who washes, and cut okra up and bags it. I cook mine in the oven...
I'll cook U a okra shrimp gumbo with eggs dropped in, u'll kiss my toes for... It's award winning.. BAMMMMMM.. THERE IT IS... Perfect for a day like today.. Last edited by biggun; 08-20-2015 at 10:28 AM. |

That does sound good Gunner. One of my favorites is okra smothered just like you described then add some shrimp in it and pass that on some French Bread. Tonnerre, mais ca c'est bon, oui!!!
