To get rid of crystals, just place the jar in warm water, I forget, maybe hot water. People I know who have a large honey hive business in LC said sometimes the same day as taking the honey off hives and jaring it, it will crystallize.

A couple of my friends in Florida have at least 60 hives between the 2 of them. They rent them out to the orchards and farmers to pollinate crops. make money on the hives and the honey.

My family has around 20 hives. We use to do around 50 to 60 hives. A few years back we had a problem with moth larvae. If you reuse supers make sure you freeze them for a couple of days to kill any larvae that might be in the frames from storage. We keep 12 hives in a satsuma orchard. It has to be the best honey I have ever eaten. Fletcher's Feed Store sells local honey. If you plan on getting into bee keeping there is a local club in SWLA that is good to join. They will go out of their way to help you in any way.

How much is initial start up? I have been interested in doing this for quite a while but have no idea how much it will cost, or where to even get a hive from

What Andy C said. Local raw honey.will help with allergies for sure. I need to get some and eat it because this pollen is kicking my azz right now.

Just FYI since there seems to be a lot of interest here, the is a beginner beekeeping class at the LSU rural life/burden center on Essen lane on Monday at 7pm
