Shark Bayou area question
I was wondering if there was a best time of year to hit the Shark Bayou area? I've just got a small flat boat with a 15hp, so my options are limited somewhat (closer to launches without getting into open water, etc) but I'd like to check out that area for some reds when I can get back on the water. Thanks. |

Shark Bayou and the Cover will start to improve as the summer gets going. Quintana/ the State Park area is the closest launch and there is a bait shop very close by. Red fishing should really be improving over the next few weeks and trout later in the summer.

Watch this site, when salinity rises the fishing picks up. when salinity reaches 7 is when specs show up in numbers. but that is usually not till late summer as mentioned earlier.
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?07387040 Also watch this one, when the river is at 9 or below is when the salinity in the bay starts to rise. http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydro...lch&gage=blrl1 as you can see the river is at 15ft, which explains why salinity is so low. |

Best thing to start out with is a chartreuse redfish magic spinnerbait to beat the banks with and shrimp under a cork. for summer reds.

if you gonna fish shark bayou you WILL NEED to get out of the main canal, too much boat traffic, jet skis, ski boats and other people passing, you will have a bad time, especially in a small boat, there are fish to be caught up in side the back canals, and there is another canal just north of shark bayou in weeks bay that we have caught fish in the past
