I've got some news for you fellas... AND I'M NOT TRYING TO START SOME SNOT... If we could stop 30% of medicaid expansion (potential patients-200,000) from using ER's as their primary providers and defer their care to PCP's (primary care physicians) the cost would be neutral. Their health would be improved and it would cost us less money provided they conform to healthier living. Now the other entitlements I cannot refer to as I'm not familiar with anything other than healthcare. A office visit at a PCP is $30.00 +/-. A ER visit is $600.00 +/-. The cost of both will subsidized by taxpayers. Which is more reasonable?

Agreed %100, but it's not going to happen

Several years ago, I was hunting with a Dr. that sometimes worked the emergency room.

By law.... they have to "see" the people when they come in. But what treatment they gets depends on what is the problem. It still cost you and I a bunch of money to pay for them going to the ER.

The tricky part for the Hospital is that they must provide proper care for these "walk-ins" or be open for a law suit. The ER can't just look at the person and tell them to go somewhere else.

It seems like the law could be changed here.

What I think needs to happen, but never will, is that the govment needs to get out of healthcare all together. Govt involvement is what has increased the cost of medical services, which in turn the cost of insurance. Just like college tuition and anything the govt wants to pay for. If they got out of medical, then maybe service cost and insurance would be lowered so they avg joe could afford good coverage. Also let us buy insurance across state boundries.
