Lake Charles Fishing
It's mostly fresh, but it does get brackish at times from the intercoastal waterway. It stays kinda muddy too from rain runoff, but it can be good if you catch it right. So the potential is there for bass, white perch, bream, catfish, and even redfish and flounder. I have caught all of these in there at different times.

I have caught bass in there. I saw my buddy pull a big redfish out of there, too.
My Dad says he and my Grandpa used to fish it all the time with buzzbaits. It's known as Black Bayou, but that gets confusing with the other Black Bayou... |

Caught a few reds during scouting trips for hunting there. Never really fished it hard but it looks like it has the potential!

Used to fish that all the time with my pawpaw. Caught bass, bream, and goggle eye all the time. Used to hang up on gar and choupique too..at least that's what pawpaw said. Never actually saw the suckers...he'd just cut the line.
After the hurricanes, we went in 2010 (or thereabout). Saw nothing but reds. From what I understand, it has freshened up some and now there bass, bream, and others than can tolerate brackish waters. It has pretty much always been somewhat brackish though. Don't know if I'd have ever considered it fresh. Intermediate at the least. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk |

I went to test run a boat 2 days ago and the water was not too bad. The closer I got to ICW the dirtier it got. Last year I caught a bunch of small sacs and bass in early march on shiners. It still hasn't come back from the hurricane. Back then it was the best kept secret around.

Is it ok to launch a bassboat?

Yes.... a boat is a boat no matter it's design.
Keep in mind the water south of I-10 in the Lake Charles area [and sometime north for a few miles] is salt water [brackish]. |

Id be skeptical launcing a larger, deeper drafting boat at the end of nelson rd. Not the best launch.
