I recently bought out of state. You have to download form R-1331 from the department of revenue. It has instructions on it. You either have to send in your state taxes, or go to baton rouge and pay them. They will fill out their portion of the R-1331 showing your state taxes paid. You then take that form to your parish tax collector. In St. Tammany parish it is in the sheriff station. You pay your parish taxes and they fill out their portion. You then send that into LDWF along with their boat registration form and fees to register your boat.
If you can, I recommend going to baton rouge in person and paying your state taxes. They are known for loosing forms or taking weeks and weeks in some cases to get the form back to you. |

If it is a broker you will have to pay La. taxes. If you buy from an individual you do not.

I bought my current boat from an individual last year (in LA) and still had to pay the sales tax before the LAWF would process my new registration. |

Taxes are one thing. Then you have the trailer title to deal with also. I hear it's a pain.

They must have changed the rules a few years ago. I purchased a bay boat through a broker in Florida a few years back and had to pay taxes. Then in 15 I bought a boat from an individual and did not have to pay taxes.

Just bought a boat motor and trailer in Fla. All three have separate titles. And you will have to go to DMV for trailer, Parish tax collectors office for parish taxes, and Get the state form on States website. I was able to pay the state online. After all that then you can send to wildlife and fisheries. Its not a big deal just gotta go thru it.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Spoke with the dealership today and what they are telling I will have to pay the taxes there in Texas then when back in La I have to pay the differential. Which I guess is the same as just paying the taxes here. Except with 2 seperate transactions. Now I just have to talk myself into making the drive that far for a boat.
