power tech prop quality
I bought a new PT in June and I've already folded a blade once and yesterday I knocked a 50 cent piece size gouge in another blade. In the past I have wore down PT Props and I have broken blades off of PT props but I've never folded a blade, which i beat back in shape with a hammer, and I've never gouged one. Is the quality of PT going down or do I just have a lemon? I'm not sure if anyone on here abuses their props in the way I do, but if anyone has any experience with poor quality lately in power tech or has any incite onto maybe a harder more durable brand of prop I would appreciate it. |

I'm rough my props, I'm only running a 50hp and haven't run PT in years. Turbo and Yamaha props are pretty tough. I'd like to hear what others have to say on durability due to the fact I was thinking of going to PT

I ran PT on my merc 40 for about 5 years. Made the switch to Tohatsu this year. Started with a yammy prop, now running PT. Yammy wouldn't hold top of water. My PT SCB 3 runs way better.

Is the SCB cupped more on the tip? I had my painted yammy prop worked with some tip cupping but still not holding like I'd like.

There's really no more cup than the stock yammy. They look nearly the same but the PT is thicker.

This is a "typical" year of wear on a prop. I get ofs 15 1/4x19 four blade. When i get to work tomorrow ill take a picture of the new prop that is already beat up.

The shiney prop on the left is the one i put on in june. Ill show yall how bad it looks after one month tomorrow, it looks worse than the year old prop in the picture.

I have found Turbo to be more durable than the Power T.

May I ask what it is that you're doing to wear out props like dat?

Man that prop almost looks like a reworked prop.. the way it galled up.

Thats kinda what im thinking. I hit things all the time and these props never ding up, this prop here bends up relatively easily. I talked to Michael at power tech after that blade folded and asked him if they changed to a softer metal alloy but he said they are the same quality they have always been. Now, I don't know if he is just blowing smoke, or i have a reworked prop that they sold me as new, or maybe i just bought a lemon.

I've always thought that power tech had the toughest props. they usually are a lot thicker than the others. I always ran them on my 200 outboard, not the fastest, but lasted a long time.
I still run powertech on my 90 that I crawfish with. they hold up well. maybe u got a bad prop, or maybe u just hit something that was really hard. good luck either way!!! |
