I know several people that cut commercial grass that have these engines that have had issues with head gaskets from early on in their mowers life and Kohler will not stand behind their customers. I have a mower that has less then 200hrs that had 2 sets of head baskets before 100hrs and engine finnnaly blew around 150hrs, father inlaw has same mower same issue except his also burns oil like it burns gas and his has already been threw short block. I talked to some shops in our area that pretty much refuse to take a mower from manufacture is it has Kohler engine do to these issues, this is a problem that started around 5yrs ago and is still going on.

I have a 5' Kubota rear discharge deck. It's a beast. My neighbor has a side discharge that's about 6 years old and the only problem he's had was a pin that sheared and cost him less that ten bucks. The diesels are very heavy with fuel and my 225lbs on it, it weighs more than 2000lbs. I've stuck it this year, with all the rain, probably 6 times. I can cut 6 acres with trees in about 2 1/2 hours.

I use kohler motors every day, there's one we have at work with 12,000hrs on it. I change the oil every 40-50hrs. and fix all leaks, they will leak oil from a seal or from the breather gasket around 1,000hrs. the problem with it being on a mower is you may not change your oil that often and you may not notice when it leaks.

My son has a lawn service and has as 42" Hustler Sport. Great mower and around $3300. I get awesome service from Moss Bluff Mower where we bought it.
