Brown water snake for sure. Yours is a big one. Did you introduce him to some #6 shot?

That snake is a Texas Rat Snake, aka "Chicken Snake"

Long slender body, and small head, but the markings tend to get it confused with the water snake.

As mentioned before, great for controlling mice, but dam they can scare the hell out of you, and they are aggressive, but absolutely Harmless!

Good shot Fool, that "was" a healthy water snake!

I hate snakes, scared to death of them, and my 6 year would pick up everyone he sees if I would let him. Trying to train him to know the difference, but I just ask him for now if you a see snake come check with me before you get too close! I have rice fields on 3 sides of my house and I haven't seen many true Water Mocassin/Cottonmouths, but I know they are there!

That last picture I know for sure is a water snake, due to the red..Neither my snake or the orginal poster's has red...so rat snakes?

Bare;y got knicked by a water snake this past duck season...Moved a stick/brush pile and he jumped out at me...I sharted.

It seems we are becoming too dependent on W's intelligence. Must we burden such an important little man with such trivial stuff?

I hear you....snakes were cursed by God in the book of Genesis. I don't take any prisoners if I have a shovel or gun around! Can take care of my own rat population.
