I would be really happy at 40. Which may happen if I'm patient. But I'm pretty fed up. Made it about a mile out of freshwater city this morning and had to turn back. Boats on the trailer and I'm soaking wet. Didn't even make it to Chenier au Tigre.

Check out Hanson skiffs. A new boat with a zuke would be in your price range. That hull has been being produced for a long time under a few different builders and seems to be a great hybrid.

That Gravois is a thing of beauty, I wonder how much it weighs. Got to ride like a champ. The only problem with the custom made aluminum boats is getting financing for them because they are not listed in NADA. I looked at the Hanson Skiffs. Good looking boat but can't find the manufactures website other than his Facebook page. That Gravois got me dreaming. Bet if I sell a kidney and a couple a guitars I could swing it.

I fished in Brandon Carters American Aluminum 25' with a 300. Man that thing is a beast. Best riding bay boat ever imo
Heavy and not the fastest but man its bad to the bone. I think they want over 120k for one now. |

Sportsman 227 Bay Master under 40 most bang for the buck IMO, boat is wired to perfection ,fit and finish is better than most. Layout is spot on easy to get to everything. Only draw back would be speed , looks like a 200 would be the smallest HP I would get on the boat prob. a 225 would be the right motor.

Checked out the Outlaw 22' Mod Tunnel. If you never heard of it, you are not alone. They make one a month and the only place that sells them is Bernie's in Victoria TX. There's not a whole lot of info on them on the internet but a friend of mine who's opinion I trust told me about them and said its the most innovative hull he has seen on a bay boat. I went by the place to take a look at one and the guy who designed the boat was there. He and his son talked to me for an hour and a half. Described everything on the boat and the reason it was there. They have been in production 2007 and not one dissatisfied costumer. It is a little shorter than I would like but can live with it if the boat can preform as advertised. Dennis Stumfoll, the designer, said he will put this boat against any 24' bay boat on the market when it comes the dryness of the ride. I asked him if it was possible to test drive the boat, he said "how bout I just take you fishing next time your off". I have been dealing with a lot of boat salesmen as of late, and this guy was the complete opposite of most of them. No BS, he was more concerned with his boat having a proper owner than than anything. I have to say I was impressed. Here are the specs and some pics I took.
Length: 21'7" Beam: 8' 6" Weight: 1690 lbs Comes with a 225 SHO Max 41 gal fuel tank. http://www.desperadoboats.com/22_desperadoboats.htm Last edited by Marque; 08-01-2014 at 01:34 AM. |

interesting design, but

The thing I noticed right away was that with the bait well/ice chest in the rear, that seems to have pushed the console forward a bit and as we all know, in rough water, the farther back you are, the better the ride. If I was to test ride this, I would want to go out in the roughest water I could find to see both how dry it is and how it handles the waves. Good luck with you decision. |

If you want a nice fit and finish, look at a used triton, shearwater, champion, blackjack. If you don't care too much about fit and finish but want a better riding and dry boat, that will all around out perform and run shallower than any of the above mentioned boats, get a haynie. Transports are also nice boats.
For a little over 40k you can get a brand new frontier, but they are only a 21ft boat. Great boat for a 21 footer though. |
