This is just from my experience working in Cameron the past year with the state marsh revegetation program, but the salinities in a lot of places have been a lot higher than you would want to pump. I've seen places where the salinity was 36 ppt, that's over gulf stream, and all the widgeon grass these guys planted was dead. When you've got salinities 25 or higher in a lot of places, the veg you would want for your ducks to feed on dies out. And as someone already said, lacassine is managed for waterfowl, so they're not gonna do anything to jeopardize the waterfowl habitat.

Not that I know of....the management is at the discretion of the biologists and complex manager. That being said, those decisions have to be based on sound science and the goals of the refuge, which, as previously stated, are oriented towards nongame birds and waterfowl.

That's too bad...

I would have to imagine that most if not all who fish there would not mind paying a "seasonal fee" of sorts, if their opinions could be voiced...

50-100 bucks/yr/boat or /fisherman could offset allot of operating expenses ...

Just a thought...

this is what i've always said! You pay for a permit to fish the burns and all that money goes god knows where, cause they don't do anything to that place. Come june the water is so low that you can't even launch. Sell permits to fish the pool and put it back in there for the fisherman, but they could give a rats *** about the fish. They do consider it a wildlife refuge the last time i checked fish was a part of wildlife right?

No way in hell I'm payin a fee for something out tax dollars already pay for. Lacassine is one of those things we can complain about all we won't but nothing will change. Do you honestly think that if you pay $100 per boat that they will use the money in a reasonable manner. Remember guys. This is the government your dealing with.
