That was a whole lot of advice. Good on you for helping someone out. Glad to see folks helping one another on here. You make it sound so good you make me want to make the trip! |

Its one of those places that can be the best fishing experience of your life or it can be just so-so. The river dictates everything. Its like that on most of the MS River lakes, once you hear a good report you are a week late. One of my favorite places to fish because you have so many options if something isn't biting. Most times we go over there we have every rod we own going with us in the truck in case you have to change tactics

Are there any lodges or resorts on Yucatan?

Oh no, this is in the middle of nowhere. Newellton is the closest town and you don't wanna be there after dark. The river gets in there and the lake fluctuates up to 30 feet during high water events, and if you catch it on the fall it can be awesome. After it falls out it is still a good place to fish but nothing like it is when the water is falling. Typically the water doesn't fall out til May/June so the spawn is over, right now you can catch the tail end of the spawn for white perch and get some spawning bream too. If the water is not falling, you can still catch fish but I wouldn't drive all the way there. Looks like the prime time is slowly passing, but if the river rises again and falls it will happen again
There is probably some cabins on Lake Bruin which is right up the road you can rent. Lake Bruin is real nice, seems like there is a state park there so there should be some cabins and if its like most state park cabins they are nice and not expensive. Vicksburg isn't too far either |

Stayed at Lake Bruin Park several times. Very nice camp ground. I don't remember seeing any cabins there though. There is a motel ablut a mile south of the entrance. It is behind a store.
