Hey Blue Chip, I feel your pain. I have had similar events happen. From ubolts breaking to blow outs on tires. I had a 25' boat w/ tandem axle trailer that had both rear tires blow out and was far from home. I jacked the axle up and tied it off. Made it home that way but it was a slow trip. As for your ubolt problem, pull off a good ubolt and bring it to UTEC in Lake Charles. They can match it for you. They carry all trailer parts. Several years ago, we were headed to Big Lake on a Sunday morning and had the bearings fall apart on a buddies trailer. I called UTEC (even though it was around 7:30 AM on a Sunday morning). The answering service connected me to a person on call, he met me at the store opened it and sold me the needed parts. Can't say enough good things about those guys or the service I received. I have bought all trailer associated parts from UTEC (in Lafayette) since then.

And he is a good guy in my book. He would not haul it but offered to let me tie my boat up at his camp for a few days so I could fix the trailer. But that trailer wasn't moving any further.....I tried...lol

Just wondering people's thoughts on the stainless steel Ubolts....I am a Macinist and have dealt with a lot of different metals. Even with the different series of stainless, it is a softer steel compared to carbon steel.

Does anyone have the stainless Ubolts and if so have you had any problems.
I have used galvanizen on my trailer and they still look good after 4 or 5 years. I would not spend the money on SS u-bolts.

The screws and some bolts in my boat are ss and I don't see any corrosion or ware on them. The heads are a little soft and the screwdriver can mess them up.

Stainless Steel is not as strong as galvanized steel. It is softer metal.
I wouldn't use them on the axles.

Just for info sharing, I had an axle break on me in Lake Charles one time.
I took my trailer winch and pulled the axle back in place and binded it with
a motorcycle strap, but left the winch cable around the axle so it won't go
back against the trailer again. I was able to go slow to launch the boat and
tie it up to a dock till I got the trailer fixed.

Went tubing for a few hours and then the storm and lightning started to hit. Decided to call a wrecker with a roll back to come get it for me....No one would come get a boat that size.....I was in a bind but gave my good friend and Brother Mason a call and to my resucue he came....

What an ending to a good weekend. Not complaining though because it always could have been worse.....
They usually will come thru when no one else will. Glad you got your boat home and everyone is safe.Sec./PM Montgomery
