Very sorry yo hear about Daphne. That is a very tough deal and never an easy decision. You guys have your memories of the good times. We went thru a similar situation last fall with our first lab. It was good therapy, for me anyway, when the vet give her something to relax her, for a moment she had that Sparkle in her eye. She is my Avatar.

Wow that must be hard. Sorry to hear that. I know many people may say, "they are only dogs" but I don't see it that way. They become much more. The are a companion who is always trusting and looking to you for your guidance. They form a bond with you that can never be broken no matter what the circumstances. They seem to be able to feel your emotions and show you unconditional love as they want nothing more than to please their master.
My chocolate lab is 1.5 years old now. Although she is slightly ADD at times, she has become everything that I have just stated to me. I don't want to even think about the day that I have to make a decision like that. There is just something about the innocence of their companionship that always brings a smile to your face when you see them. It's a shame they have such a short life span compared to us. Good luck with your new pup. I bet when you bring it home your wife will forget all about not wanting another!!! |

Thanks for all the condolences fellas. Its amazing how much an animal can become such a big part of your life and how attatched you can become to them. We sure do miss her. Thanks to one of our salty cajun members, I might have a line on a new pup already. The wife is cringing already.lol She just worried about all the poopin, and chewing ,and digging up her flower beds. Maybe this one will be an out of the ordinary lab, that wont do all those things. Not.lol We sustained quite a few damages with the last one during her terrible two's. From truck break lines, to swing sets, patio furniture, ac wiring, dog houses, tractor seats, hydrualic lines, and countless other things.Gotta love em though.

I feel for you big time Brother.
I had to do the same thing 07/13/12, Friday to my 12 year old black lab. Sure made for an empty tear filled weekend. Mine was my wife's constant companion, almost a service dog. Did several bouts with cancer over the years, University of Auburn is a great place. We decided to wait on the puppy thing for awhile, this time. Did the puppy thing right after the last, and it was a long time until my wife liked the pain in the butt puppy. Therefore, we named the one that just passed: Kodiak Hebert Panass aka Kodi. It is better to have loved and lost, then to not have loved at all. |
