they use different staged compressed gas injectors to increase the pressure and speed as it passes through the barrel and if the pumpkins stay in tact after launch then the bait should as well |

Here's an article on some of our earlier work with spud cannons:
http://www.technologyreview.com/view...le-velocities/ I'm coming to believe compressed air is the way to go here. Trying to avoid buying a bigger boat to feed my habit of catching bull reds. I like sitting on the beach while fishing. |

Hoping we can get together and hammer them again bro. Cant wait till we have some nice spring days. Got me a lil bbq pit to bring with me. An afternoon of hauling in bulls and cooking on the beach sounds like some good times. Really hope our families cross paths again buddy.

Hi Mathgeek,
I love shooting spud guns, what a blast! But spotty ignition and spud just rolling out of the tube are a pain in the behind. Check out http://www.burntlatke.com/l3.html; these guys have spent some serious time working out the kinks, using metered propane, spark strips and oxygen/gas mixing in the chamber. 100% ignition every time with none of the frustration. Next step, you should encase your chosen bait projectile in a suitable sabot material. The big question is, can you make a biodegradable sabot? I would guess something like the peanut material in packing containers that is water soluble, heck if you're really fancy, perhaps a shrimp flavor to further chum the area. Lastly, attach a reel off of a bowfishing apparatus, mount to said spud gun, launch and attach to rod and reel. Just remember to take loads of pictures when you get the completed project finished! |

I saw a guy at work launch a full coke through a 3/8'" transite wall at about 20 yards and we never did find the coke. 8' long conduit with a collar with 2 tapped 3/4" holes with quick opening quarter turn valves at 100 psi. Boss came flying to see what the H@ll was going on. Cut that sh@t up and throw in the dumpster. I wish we could have made it to the tank farm for a range test at a tank.
I hope you are using spinning reels or I see a backlash ....take a video or post when your going I might make the drive its about 64 miles to Cameron. But it would be something to see. |

I can see it now
Mathgeet pulls up to beach with 2000lbs nitrogen tanks behind his truck and 250lb air compressor Slides his frozen mullet in the barrel with his 100lb power pro braid... counts down 3,2,1 blast off Projects the mullet 100's of feet into the air while screaming out line but right before he can stop it, the line reaches end of spool and his 10ft beach rod is now air born and land beyond the jettie rocks

This is amazing. If I could only have the time to produce potato launcher fishing poles.

Mg,
I once bought my godchild a push button release fishing pole. The bait was housed inside of plastic housing and was aerodynamic. Once released it hit the water opened up and dropped bait in water and I believe it doubled as a bobber. Maybe you can use the design to your advantage in helping to create a product to suit your needs. I'll c if I can find the product online "Go ahead, share your opinion! I won't cry" |

I made a potato gun that shot potatos 1,500 feet. It was pretty bad ***, we started putting trace rounds in them, we would put a sweet potato with a glow stick on the back side, aquanet hair spray....... thing would glow at night when you hit the trigger. Good times.
