Also allow ahead of time sign-up with an easy ability to donate more if you want to. Then have an honor system on the start-time, like someone said, 5:30 or 30 minutes before sunup, allowing launching from two or maybe multiple launches. Who cares if it's all for charity and for bragging rights anyway? Have everyone check in or show up at Hebert's by 2:00 for weigh-in with the announced winners at 3 so those that launched somewhere else can gather up for awards, raffle, etc.

Maybe take part of the raffle sales or separate donations for a perpetual bragging rights trophy, sort of like the Stanley Cup. In fact, call it the SaltyCajun Cup. Something you could drink beer out of and take photos with when you have it.

Also, add redfish and flounder categories.

Just my .02 worth.
I like this a lot, the only problem with Heberts would be that if its rough like it was Heberts would be tough for smaller boats unless trailered there from launch to launch which could be time consuming, calc point allowed access to a lot of areas with a calm ride

yeah Cal Point is a first class place. Hard to beat when holding a tourney.

The only bad thing about the point is there really is not enough boat slips. I know you are not going to have enough for everyone but whenever the tide is out like it was if you don’t have a slip or trailer your boat then it’s hard to get in and out for the way in and the other activities.

I think everything went extremely well, and our organizers did one helluva job. If I were to change anything, I'd say:

Maybe $25-$30/person for entry (fairer for the yakkers)
Entry fees go to charity, but sponsored prizes to winners, plus side pots for additional action
I agree with the "honor system", fishing begins at 5:30AM
Launch from anywhere, weigh-in at one place

If 100% of the entry fees go to charity, I can process credit cards for entry fees in advance, which gives us a better head-count. There are tax implications if 100% doesn't go to charity, so I don't think I can use the nonprofit credit processing account. We could offer a discount for early registration (maybe $25/person instead of $30, for example) so you can tell sponsors how many are fishing.

Man, I'm already looking forward to the next one!

I see many other benefits to giving all ofthe entry fees to the charity. It certainly gives the tourney/shootout a more "amateur" or "non-professional" feel and for sure, I certainly felt like a non-pro on Saturday.

I don't know, it just didn't feel right to see that cash handed out while we were out there fishin' for the kids. And I bet Speckdaddy, Fool, Micah and others donating their time and talent wouldn't be the case if this was a money-only tourney. To me, it should be all or nothing. So let's give it all to the kids and if people want to do on-the-side calcuttas/side-bets, let them work it out.

The "honor system" certainly works then - launching from anywhere, weigh-in at one place also is a lot less hassle. And I agree, Calc Pt was a great place to host the results.

Heberts has a lot less boat docking spots than Calcasieu Point.
Each tourny will get better and better. Just have to keep learning from past tourny's.

i think all fish should be dead just kidding i think part of the excitement is the shotgun start but for a fun tourney it is unneccesary and unsafe. if it is in grandisle let people launch where ever fourchon golden meadow, bridgeside, sand dollar ectt just have a designated weigh in

Plaques or trophies would be cool. I think the tourney is more about pride and bragging rights than the money. I liked this tourney because I think the leader board reflected the true skill of the anglers and not who got lucky soaking bait at the jetties.

I thinks the lil guy would disagree, cause according to him and the 4000+ posts he has made he is the most skilled one here.

Minniewe must be a Texan because when it comes to telling tall tales that boy is the King.

There is only one difference between a texan and minniewe when they are slinging the ****, a Texan won't drown in it!
