SOrry to hear youo had to put your best friend down. I have a sign my wife found that we put up. Says dogs are just children with fur. I fully believe that. Am not looking forward to the day our boston dies or has to be put down.

So sorry for the loss...I know how much my dogs mean to me...They really are "mans best friend"...I know mine have gotten me through times I otherwise wouldn't have made it through...They are a shoulder to cry on, a friend to laugh with and the most loyal companion anyone could ask for...As long as you have your memories, they are never really gone

I know the feeling. Two weeks ago my 12yr old German Shepard had to be put down at 10pm at emergency vet clinic. I cried like a baby too. Then I had to explain to my 3 kids and wife, the next day, how he got sick and died. He had just turned 12yrs old two days before this. Then came burial time in the back yard. That was his yard, because when I bought this property I got him as a puppy. He guarded it and my family well. I want another one but not sure I'm ready for that again.

I have been avoiding this thread like the plague.........I know its coming soon, dont want to think about it........wife and I went to see Marley and Me when it came out, I walked out and waited in the hall for the last 30 minutes....That morning I had to carry "Spud" outside and hold his leg up so he could pee on the tree..........This has only happened a few times in the last year. I don't know what I'm going to do when his time comes............He IS my Best Friend.............
Blue, I feel for you deeply.............Got any Pics of your ol man??? Here's Spud........... Last edited by Dink; 04-03-2010 at 10:45 AM. |

Stayed away from this post because I too have been through the same thing several times. The following was sent to me this morning by a friend and it sums up a dog's life quite well, enjoy.
A Dog's Purpose Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracleI examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experienceThe next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker 's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanationHe said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live agood Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? The Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogsalready know how to do that, so theydon't have to stay as long.'So live like a dog:Live simply.Love generously.Care deeply.Speak kindly.Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like: When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.Take naps.Stretch before rising.Run, romp, and play daily.Thrive on attention and let people touch you.Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Be loyal.Never pretend to be something you're not.If what you want lies buried, dig until you find itWhen someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently. ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY |

Yea Dink "Marley and Me" was defiantly a tear jerker. Whoever made that movie must have had an old lab; I couldn’t believe how accurately the dog aged.
