No, no, no, no, no…I eat BBQ all over the place and Rudy's is decent at best. Anytime you have high school kids working a pit watch out!

One of favorites is Kays BBQ in Midland, TX. Pick your meat right off the pit. I will post some more tomorrow.

To any of you that fish Toledo on the Texas side...maybe you can chime in on my favorite for ribs....hell...it's all good: Hemphill BBQ. This guy has the old school wood smoker on a rotisserie in an huge iron pit that is hand cranked. This guy knows his how to cook to the T on that thing and his rubs are the TITS. Don't even need BBQ sauce.

If you haven't been and you're up that way.

If you want BBQ with no sauce and ever head to San Antonio go to Lockhart. I have eaten at Kreuz Market but they say Blacks and Smittys is just as good and if you belive in no sauce then then thats the places since you cant even get sause at these places. When you go in to order they pull meat off the pit and cut and weigh in front of you then you eat off butcher paper, really worth a stop.

Default Bar-B-Que

My pal Tom Shockley suggested I weigh-in here, since I have been cooking and chasin' bar-b-que since I was a baby. My favorites are:

1. Big Bob Gibson's Bar-B-Que in Decatur, Alabama. They been there since 1925, and have won EVERY Bar-B-Que Championship including American Royal, Jack Daniels, Memphis in May, and many more, multiple times. My Mom worked there when I was a kid, and 20 years later their head cook was my next door neighbor. Freaking scary good Bar-B-Que.

2. Wilber's Bar-B-Que in Goldsboro, North Carolina. OMG is that a great place. Wood stacked high out back, friendly help, and awesome food. Top notch. All the extras are great too.

3. Tommy's Bar-B-Que in Ocala, Florida. Dude... it is awesome. Great food, good prices, and a waitress that hasn't shut her mouth since the 70's. Try it, be sure and try the Brunswick Stew.

4. Pappas Ranch House, Highway 54, Pasco County Florida. Best Bar-B-Que I have found anywhere around Tampa. Great food, great prices.

Sad to say I don't know 5 GREAT places, but here's a #5 that's worth the $$

5. Home Team Bar-B-Que in Charleston, S.C. Great pulled pork samich and get you some of the mustard flavored mac-and-cheese! Collards were off the hook, too.

There's BigMike's Top 5 places in the USA.
