I understand both sides of this equation. Your phone should be returned plain and simple. But you and your daughter should understand the reason for action. Should it have been taken? That has not been answered. There are rules applied here that are as a safety precaution. And I have read you are concerned for her safety. The good are suffering for the bad here. I think things are already pushed to a level of stupidity. The rules are in place for protection without prejudice. Just because she is a great student it can not be ignored. If you punch someone then you take your lick and suffer the price. What did we do before we had cell phones? Good luck and I hope you don't look trust in your school.

Gents, I graduated from this school. It is a very small school in a very small town in north Louisiana. I brought my daughter from a 5A behemoth of a school in San Antonio , Texas where she had grown up most of her life. I would not want my child or any other to go to a gang infested school like that where the teachers and staff are no better than the gangs. The reason I say this is that my child was bullied and put down because she was very smart as were most of the other kids she hung around with. The teen pregnancy rate at that school would astound you.
So after my divorce I moved back to Louisiana and my daughter chose to live with me and she wanted to go to a small school where she could feel safer and continue her progression. So I could live just about anywhere because I am a nurse, but she told me she wanted to live in my home town for church...family...and school. Now I am regretting coming here and not just due to this ...She has no future here. She will have to move to a big city and be back in that rat race again and this time she will be on her own. Maybe in some small way this will be a lesson to her to both be descreet and to never ever under any circumstances give up your phone to anyone. in answer to one of the posts...Salty Cajun court wouldnt settle the case...lol I had the chief of police here charge the teacher, the principal, and the school board with theft and withholding private property. I know it will go nowhere, but when I speak before the School Board with the petition that already as of 11 am today has 455 signatures, my voice and the other parents and voting members of this community will be heard. |

Hang in there brother......your daughter is lucky to have you! Policy and procedures should never over rule common sense. |

Ok..Heres the policy at my High School.
If you are caught texting in class or school, it is taken, and parents must come get it. If you have it on school campus, it must be stowed away and turned off.. And to be honest everyone's phone is hanging out of there pocket and the teachers don't mind as long as your not texting. |
