All I know is I get the same gas mileage if I'm pulling a boat, RV or just crushing which I like no big shocker and being a 4X4 doesn't help the mileage. I don't have to expect 25 to the gallon I get the same all the time.

I got the 5.0 4x4. Love it, Pulls the hell out of my 24' boat. Everything I need it to be. Traded in my 7.3 turbo-diesel for this truck. I feel like I have much more control while pulling with the 5.0 vs the 7.3. I looked at both 5.0 and ecoboost. Drove Ecoboost and was very impressed, almost like a sportscar. Read review after review and drove both several times. Ecoboost was a little louder due to the turbo ramping up. Final decision came after I spoke with mechanic at Planet Ford. Said 5.0 is a solid engine and proven- Easy to work on, lots of room and cheaper down the long haul for maintenance. Told me the turbo was expensive to work on. $2500 for one and told me $4000 to change out both of them. Told him I wanted a truck I could keep a long time- he told me to pick the 5.0- I bought it and never looked back. Love it.

I've got an fx2 with the ecoboost with 3.55 rear end and I love it. On a recent trip to florida doing 85-95 the whole way I average 17.5 and on they way back set cruise at 78 and average 20. While pulling my 21' bay boat I average 16 driving between 55-65. The truck pulls like a beast and I have had any problems so far in 11,000 miles. And on another note my uncles 09 tundra with the 5.7 cant keep up with my lil v-6!

but Corey, why would you listen to a man that works on these for a living??? the standard spec sheet on fords website says the ecoboost is the better engine!!!!

I have the Ecoboost and love it. I have a 4wd, with the 3:73 rear end and I can easily get 22mpg at 60 miles per hour. I drove a 5.0 for two weeks as a rental vehicle and didn't care for it. The Ecoboost is very quiet and the truck rides like a Lexus but can haul azz when you want to.

Wait ! Rumor has that Ford Is planning on a V8 Eco boost in the 2013 F150. If so it should be a beast.

They may when not at cruise and unloaded, but when pulling, they stay spooled up.

Not everyone is up to date on turbo spooling and how a turbo really works. of course a turbo isn't gonna work after a long dead stop (unless your rev n your engine up) like it's gonna work after your motor has gotten its rpms up and you have shifted and gotten your turbo spooled up.

The harder the engine works, the more a turbo turns up.
If you don't hear it, it ain't turning up, but it ain't stopped either.
I have seen turbo's glowing red at night on natural gas compressors. Loaded.

Yes explain to us how that 6 cylinder diesel pulls so good at hwy speeds cause once you get up to speed its only a 6 cylinder.

I recieved my ecoboost in September, already racked up 11,000 miles. I have the 3.73, 4 X 4, 6.5' bed, with the max tow package. Arround town i average 16mpg. The only long trip i took without a load was 300 miles one way @ 19.5mpg. I have a 32' bumper pull camper, figured the weight of camper and contents to be arround 9,500lbs, pull it with no problem, except only gets 9mpg. If you are gonna do lots of towing i would get the ecoboost, it is a beast. The turbo lag is very minimal but noticeable if you know what to look for. If just ocasional towing get the 5.0. eather way you will get a truck that you are going to love to drive.
Another downfall is with the ecoboost i could only order a 26gal tank not the 36 like I wanted.
