From a customer/client standpoint I'd much rather have to use bait to catch, then have to reschedule a trip...Guides job is to provide the best opportunity for the client to catch, gotta do what u gotta do to keep the people happy and get the job done....Now that its said, I am useless with live bait, just cant get the hang of it

Who cares about live bait or artificial especially when its your livelihood? I would think that making clients happy would be the most important thing first. Using live bait may mean getting off the water quicker if bad weather is supposed to roll in later in the day for instance. A guide may choose to use live bait for a bunch of reasons. At the end of the day, fishing is about catching fish. Now having said that I prefer to not have to use live bait as I don't like the hassle. I understand that W's argument is mostly about the skill and sport of using artificial but at the end of the day to each his own I recon.

If I was a guide and my people wanted to or were inexperienced than I would have no bones about using crickets.

That old pic up above is 2002. That's a classic! Dwayne Lowery. Guide from Baytown and one heck of a fisherman.

I happened to be fishing the same day these guys caught these fish.... I think it was a Tuesday. I was on the water just as it was getting light. As I left Hebert's landing, I was headed south. As I approached Commissary I saw 2 dark objects out in the water 200 or 300 yards away and wondered what that was. As I got a little closer, I saw that it was some "wader", but it was too late to slowdown so I just turn away a little. I fished the south end of the lake and into west cove and only caught 2 trout. I never saw the "waders" again that day. For me [and a couple others that I talked to] that day was a slow fishing day, so my hat is off to those guys to catch trout like that. |
