I never said that a power poll was useless but guy wanted to know if it holds on reefs... From what I have seen...its holds on reefs with little to no wind...does not hold if its choppy or good breeze

Its good for bank fishing and birds ...but useless in 7ft of water or deeper .....

If you don't have two of them...you don't have much option on boat position

Guess I'm old school......all the new lazy ways of fishing are not my style.... I rather use what I know works in all conditions than have 5 attachments for 5 different conditions when one works for all

A about the best advantage a power poll has is working birds....you can hold and not blow though them if its windy

Another option that hasn't been brought up is what I do most of the time........ I have the Minn Kota Co-Pilot trolling Motor. It is GPS enabled and has an "anchor" feature. When the trolling motor is down, you just press the little button with the picture of the anchor on it, and BAM you stay within a 15ft. circle of that spot (usually its tighter than this though). Now really high wind or rough seas its a little bigger circle. I have used it offshore to hold us near the rig, and on the flats to hold us near the mouths of bayou drains. IT ALMOST ALWAYS WORKS. And its about the same price as a power pole.
