Mr. Cruz of GLAAD is the one that quoted some poll the 56% of Louisiana Residents approved of gay marriage. I imagine the poll was taken on the east side of Bourbon Street. Mr. Cruz is the same person that called Phil an uneducated redneck. Phil never condemned gays, he just said he doesn't understand their attraction to another man. If he was racist against African Americans and he is the patriarch of his family, think he would have handed over the company to Willie when he adopted "little" Will. Phil said this past summer that he did not see himself on the show much longer, he may have figured on going out with a bang. I personally think the Robertson's should beat A&E and GLAAD at their own game, get a lawsuit proving that both organizations were trying to prevent first admendment rights and used bullying / hate tatics to do it. That would be so funny to watch. I would love to do jury duty on that case!

Look I could care less what he says but clearly he says gays are full of murder and all kind of stuff in this video. Here's a shocker ! A bible thumping Jesus bearded man that lives in the woods from Louisiana doesn't like gays.

Using a somewhat time honored saying....
Here is how the cookie really crumbles; 1) Phil is within his rights to have, and voice an opinion 2) GLAAD & other gay activist communties are within their rights to have an opinion of Phil's opinion. 3) A&E is within their rights to "cancel" the show / stop filming phil....etc 4) you are within your rights to therefore either stop watching the show in protest, start watching another show on another network that picks up duck dynasty (or whatever it becomes) or your also within your rights to go fly a kite. Human beings did not evolve to be exactly the same as each other. We can, should, and must celebrate all of our individuals. In order to do so we have to tolerate all people's viewpoints. How boring would the world be if there were only Phil & Kay Robertson's, or everyone was a Kanye & Kim or everyone thought and acted just like "W" (I think this last one could quite possibly cause the whole space / time continuum thing to implode) Lastly, i wonder what the odd's are that this is all a "manufactured" crises to bump up ratings on the show. I mean really i just got back from the store and saw Duck Dynasty sugar cookies for sale????????????????????????????????????????? |

There is no free speech issue here. The First Amendment prohibits the government from blocking speech (with some obvious exceptions, such as classified information, military secrets, etc). At no point has the government exercised prior restraint against Robertson, thus no free speech violation. Robertson has made similar comments in past interviews, including to Christian magazines, so there is no liberal media conspiracy attempting to lure him into saying things. He says them publicly, freely and repeatedly and is still saying them since the GQ interview. Apparently the biggest problem the GQ writer had -- I read the article and overall it's pretty complimentary -- was getting Robertson to shut up about his religious beliefs long enough to ask a question about something else. What many people fail to understand is there is no constitutional right to protection from the CONSEQUENCES of free speech. If you think there is, look your boss in the face tomorrow morning and exercise your right to free speech by calling him a POS and see how long the First Amendment keeps you employed. A&E made a business decision that the negatives would outweigh the positives in retaining Robertson. If you think that was the wrong decision you're free to sign petitions, contact A&E, join a protest against the network, spend your life savings on stuff with the DD logo, hire Robertson for a duck hunt (if he still guides professionally) or whatever, just as groups who were offended are free to protest, call for his firing and so forth.

(a) Employer practices It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer - (1) to fail or refuse to hire or to DISCHARGE any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individual’s race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. But I bet there are a few questions they will avoid answering right now relative to the Phil Robertson interview in GQ and his subsequent suspension by A&E: Since the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is currently in place as Federal law, why don't you think a person should enjoy its protections for quoting the Bible? Should we ignore the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and allow employers to fire employees for quoting the Koran? The Torah? The Talmud? Or does protection of a religion (nondiscrimination based on religion) simply not extend to quoting religious texts or expressing religious views? Would you be OK with Duck Commander firing employees who spoke in favor of homosexual causes? |

I hear so many arguments for freedom and liberty at family gatherings, then in the next breath they condemn Muslims and Hindus for praying in public or pronouncing their faith. I'm totally against that frame of mind, and believe in liberty and justice for ALL, not just those with the same beliefs as me... |
