Default Minn Kotta vs Motor Guide ??

I will be ordering the new sled in a week or so and I was all in on a I pilot but I just got finished reading about motor guides version. 105lb and is supposed to be more silent and once on spot lock you can bump it in any direction 5 ft at a time while still in lock mode. It is also made to link up with lowrance units. These features are pretty nice. Somewhere around 1800$ with everything. Lifetime warranty on shaft too. I have used both brands in past and broke them both equally. Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated.

fished with a guide this week- His I pilot was useless b/c the remote was bad or battery was dead. I have a MG with hand control...just make 3 batteries hot and go!!!!!! Best way to go is without all the fancy stuff to break, remember its salt water!!

Yeah. I like that xi5 motor guide. It looks sweet and is supposed to be really quiet. I think I will get that 105 with the foot pedal for when I want to bass fish. http://www.motorguide.com/introducin...trolling-motor

I had a wireless MG, never really worked great, and after about 6 months the foot control wouldn't communicate with the motor at all anymore.

I'm not sold that wireless and trolling motor technology go together yet.

Edit: Purchased new in summer of 2012

I've used a few I pilots and I liked them. I'm pretty sure MG improved upon MK version. I hope anyway.

I hated my MG great white hand control. Bent the shaft twice, my error, but never broke a MK shaft. I also had the bottom plastic on the control part break twice... not my fault. The new MG may be really nice, but I've never had a problem with MK. Now the rest of the MK stuff is hot garbage...

I've owned a few of both and had problems with both. I feel the new MK are better than MG though. The best MG model I believe is the Brute they made years ago...only problems out of the last one I had was my error. The digital boards seemed to be crap on the MG's. I have a 101MK right now that really like with no complaints.

I probably would have gotten the motor guide if they had it when I got my sled. Since I have the lowrance unit. Most peoblems people have qith the mk rwmote is they are using the WRONG battery. 2450N is the batrery to get. It a thicker lithium battery. the ones from walmart will not work! !

U saw how my ipilot worked. No problems at all. Good luck bro

Yeah. I def like the MK the only knock is it is a little loud. I might be the test dummy for the MG. I like the lifetime shaft warranty and wireless foot pedal and the spot lock you can move around in 5' increments.

I have had 5 MG and at least that many MKs and will never own a MG again. The MK is better in grass and the foot control is much stronger. I bent or broke 6-8 MG shafts and only broke 1 MK shaft and they replaced it free of charge. That's over 20 yrs of bass tournaments and 10 or so years of salt water fishing.

Minn Kota® Introduces the Most Powerful Trolling Motor on the Market

July*2013

Racine, WI–Continuing the evolution of electric trolling motor technology, Minn Kota® introduces the most powerful trolling motor on the market featuring 112 pounds of thrust. "As the long-time innovation leader, we have developed a motor that delivers significantly higher thrust with minimal impact to size and weight," Minn Kota Senior Product Manager Dave Maryanov said. "In addition to increased power, the new balanced motor design offers improved boat control with less steering effort."The high thrust models provide extra power when needed such as fighting wind and current, making quick adjustments, powering through thick vegetation and moving between fishing spots.
