Default invaded by snakes! WTH

how do you repel these things. i live in a neighborhood but since the rains i've had 4 snakes in the last couple of weeks. this morning i woke up to find one in my house! thankfully they have all been small and non-poisonous. does anyone have any ideas how to repel them?

I walked into the kitchen last week and saw my cat slapping at a snake trying to crawl into my work boots. Thank god for the cat. It was not poisonous but I would have died of a heart attack
