Last year I had already pick a couple of times by now. Same spot still looks to be 2 or 3 longer before they ready.

I once made persimmon wine. It was the best. I have made strawberry once and bottled it too soon and ended up with sparkling wine. I have been waiting for the black berries to ripen so I can make a few gallons.

I like blackberry. Have Strawberry going right now. Will get a batch of blackberry going if I have the time when I'm home. I want to try watermelon. I think that would be fun. The trick I've read to good Watermelon wine is to not dilute it at all with water. I'd also like to try to make wine from Japanese plums. Country wines are my favorites to make. I've never made wine from grapes. Just doesn't intrest me.

Back when I was into the wine making, persimmon was one of my favorites. Be around October before they will be ripe. Lemon, blackberry and muscadine was a favorite too.

How involved is the wine making process. I know my uncle use to do it alot but he doesn't really mess with it anymore. I have a friend I work with that makes it out of juicy juice that you buy in the store.
What basic equipment do i need to get started? |

Made orange wine this past fall. It's all about controling acid levels for a good taste.

Maybe use some champagne yeast for your next batch of muscadine. might give it a little more alcohol and make it bubbly. Id say go to "As is Brewing" on cypress street in sulphur. they will steer you in the right direction.

I've had Pear wine that would knock you **** in the dirt! That stuff was strong! I really would like to try the Japanese Plum wine. That would be nice I think.

I checked on my Dew Berry "patch" Saturday. The berries are just starting to grow. They are maybe a 1/4" long and still very green.
I think it will be 2 weeks before any are ready to pick. I also look at a bunch of plant while turkey hunting....they looked the same. |

Gerald,
I think that late frost in March hammered the early bloomers that we normally pick right about now. The only ones that made it must have bloomed after that frost. This time last year I ate handfuls down the pipelines turkey hunting, This year, didn't even see a berry. |

I got a pretty good bit of ripe ones now, but in about another week or so its gonna be ridiculous. I also have more of a "yard" for em to grow on than most people lol
