Smile new to big lake

Well guys like it says I'm new to big lake. Its been years since I've been out shrimping with my uncles there. Now that I have my kenner I would like to learn some tips or what to watch for in the lake. I was wondering if there is anything to watch for in the water or areas to stay away from. I wont be fishing that much there but just looking for a heads up. I may also be interested in other lakes in the area but that will come in time. I do know a couple guys that fish BL and may try to follow someone out the first time so I dont get into areas I shouldnt be in. Thanks guys any help would be very much appreciated.

I was with one certain professor from McNeese taking soil samples south of the old jetties, and told him not to cut across there to make the main lake. 5 minutes later, he hooks a right and guns it through an area about 3 car lengths wide where he thought there wouldnt be any rocks... put a nice dent in the aluminum prob the old mcneese boat had.

Crablady is where I my uncles would launch to go shrimping..one of them, Mike Bertrand, used to have a camp near that launch years and years ago. How far is that from Heberts??

i just started fishing big lake again and the best advice i can give you is get a hot spot map, learn all the spots on the map so when people are talking about catching at the wash out you know where it is, then look where all the boats are. then look it up on your map. Mainly youll see alot of people in turners, long point, comissary point, lng. places like that. Then its what do you fish with. Right know its top water and live bait. top water in the morning and live bait after. you'll pick the rest up as you go like me. see ya out there.
