These were caught a few years ago out of GC......~ 40 miles out. That day we did not start finding good "green" water until ~ 35 miles out.

Yep....that offshore can be fun. Nothing like hooking into a 50+ lb Ling compaired to inshore fishing.

One trip, one of the guys had something take his bait and the fish just started swimming away from the rig.....the reel was screeming.

About 45 minutes and 3 miles later......we finally got to see the ~ 8 foot hammerhead shark before breaking it off. The other guys wanted me to take a turn with the rod......I was not up to that punishment after watching them.

When we caught big fish, we unhooked from the platforms and drifted away with the fish. We didn't fight them at the platform. We didn't want to chance letting them go into the legs and cut the line.
The good thing about fishing out there was no pressure, no potlicking, wide open spaces. If you see someone fishing at a platform, just go to the next one. You could fish on weekends and not see anyone.

I get invites with some guys that I know.

I have been tempted a couple of times, when at the Cameron Jetties, to run out to the nearest rig in my 15' boat when the seas were slick.

Last trip was to the Lump. The only thing we caught were Bonita and one nice Wahoo.
