Default Getting Costas Repaired

Well I dropped my Costas a couple weeks ago and cracked a lens, I have had them for about 3 years now so I wasnt that upset becuase I know they had a "Lifetime Warranty" well the frames were also a little warped from heat. So I get online fill out all the info...pay the 11.95 service fee just for sending them in then put them in the mail. Today...I get an email from them saying it would be $99.00 to replace my lenses and another $49.00 to repair the frames. I know that I'll be receiving basically a brand new pair of glasses for about $100 off, but my question to you is:

Has anyone ever sent any glasses off and Costa cover the problems under their "Lifetime Warranty"?

Yes I sent mine off and received a brand new pair for 40$. The hinge on mine was stuck/unmovable and a few minor knicks on the lenses. I can see the hinge being the only factory problem on glasses. the rest would be user fault.

There have been several threads about Costas on the forum. If my memory serves, dropping them and cracking the lenses is not considered a manufacturers defect and is not covered.

Others may post or do a search on the site.

If you broke em, they're gonna charge you. User error is not covered under warranty

I would have to agree here... The frames should be covered under warranty for warping unless you put them in an oven or something... I leave mine in my truck all year in the heat and havent had any problems with warping so it sounds as though yours may be defective.

I've sent mine in for lens change and for them to replace the rubber coming off of the frames... they charged me for the lens but the frames were covered. I would call them.

Just called...frame not covered bc they feel that the frame didn't warp due to defect. Said they HAD to have been sat on, stepped on, had something heavy put on them, etc...said if I pay the full 150 they'll send me a new pair.

Sounds like I should have snapped a hinge before I sent them.

For what you pay for them things they should send you 2 pairs back, I would love to know the mark-up on Costas. Can't be more than $30 a pair manufacturing, research and development cost.

I'm telling y'all, five dollar Berkleys at Wal Mart, amber or gray lenses, light as a feather. I used to tournament redfish and still sight fish for reds a lot. Difference is negligible. When I scratch a pair, I switch 'em out for new ones without a thought. The old ones go to the back-up bin and for guests who show up in Ray Bans.

Sent several pair back. Broken or missing lenses not covered, you'll have to pay for 2 new lenses. They have to replace both lenses even though only one is bad so the lenses will match up. I would fight the frame issue if indeed it was what you consider a factory defect vs something you yourself did to ruin the frame.

I have used the Costa repair department on 3 occasions. One of the 3 was operator error (drunk). Thus, I had to pay for one pair of frames, other two repairs were NC. I will continue to use them!

I have had good luck as well. 4 repairs and only paid once...when I broke the lense by dropping them. My fault, not Costa's.

I'm not trying to convince anyone, but the hassle, time and cost of shipping when they broke was such that when it happened to me, I was turned off. When they finally were lost, I found the cheap, admittedly un-American Chinese knock-offs and haven't given it a second thought since.

I just got a pair back last week. Had them on my cap and forgot , pulled cap off and slammed them on the ground. $99 dollar mistake.

Once before on another pair, a coating was coming off of frames, They took care of those with a new pair for like $11

Just sent two pairs back Lens Change was 11.95, to repair the nose pad it was 49.00 called complained because nosepad should be warranty. They took off charge said they will send me two new pairs for 11.95 a piece. Oh the lenses laminate around edge was seperating from lense and one pair was cracked and laminate was messed up too.
