They do hold up but if you are use to the smoothness of a shimano or lews you will be disappointed.

I had Lews BB1, TP, and Speed Spool. Now I use all Daiwa Lexa's 100 series which in the same price range is 100% better quality reel.
Ratios I have are 6:3.1, 7:1.1, and 4:9.1 I also have 1 300 series Lexa. Why I like them. 1. Quailty built reels for $100-$104 shipped to your door on ebay all day long 2. Clutch system is more durable than Lews. I had to return my Lews reels 10 times over two years for this issue. You can push your thumb bar up with your thumb if flipping with ease. Built stronger and will last longer than ratchet style Lews uses. 3. Once you clean the lube out of the bearings it is a smooth reel 4. Like swept handles 5. magnetic brake system on daiwa is what they are known for If don't like magnetic brake system Shimano the better reel |

Now smoothness of Daiwa versus Shimano or Lews at the same price point $100-$170 ballpark range.
Daiwa isn't as smooth unless you tweak the reel. If you clean the bearings it is smoother than out of the box, but not as smooth as the other brands. Magnetic drag is a lot more precise. |

The Daiwa Tatula is going to interesting when it comes out. I don't know if they are going to be salt friendly though.
