Mr. Gerald, I will outcast your "200BSF". Shimano says that their absolute best reel for saltwater applications is a Chronarch 100D. That is, if you are wading. From a boat, Calais is the best application. Now, at these prices, I understand that they are not for everyone and I am not trying to sell 'em. I'm just letting W know that a Curado, while it is a great buy in a reel, it is nowhere near the best. Totally different guts in these reels.

Bruce my dad uses the Calcuttas and has had to send a few of them off..... He told me that I should of put him on the Curados years ago.....That's all he uses NOW

I honestly believe the calcutta TE is a better reel, maybe not for trout fishing b/c of the weight, but for saltwater fishing in general.

My dad has the Calcutta 50mgs..(I think that's right)...There a smooth casting reel but he has had trouble with fishing them in saltwater

I have to disagree about the Citica being trash in saltwater...We have both Citica's and Curado's and they both hold up well in the salt...Have been fishing them in Big Lake for over 5 years now and they have both been swimming and still going strong with proper cleaning and maintenance...

BLB....Too me a good reel is one with no maintenance....I never clean my reels....I dropped one in today taking a trout off....I just let them ride....If you have to clean a reel then its not worth using in my book!!! Add a little oil every now and then and that's it.....I have some old green Curados that have never been worked on and still cast like new......I had to have some gears in the 100D's changed out before due to wear but nothing major...A good reel should be able to handle abuse ,abuse , and more abuse

I don't think there is such a thing as a reel that requires absolutely no maintenance...If you do no maintenance at all, it will only last you a few years, then you have to replace it...We oil and lube ours at least once a year(sometimes more if someone decides to go swimming) to ensure maximum performance and a long life on the reel...Some people don't like to mess with their reels; good for them...we just prefer to take extra care to ensure the best fishing we can...

From what I have been told in saltwater YES!!!! I have been told the Cores need tender loven care in saltwater.....Maybe a good reel but who has time to clean reels.....I need my reels to work day in day out!!!

So Reddy, the definition of a good reel is one you can abuse and neglect and it will still work??? It not like the reel can be smooth after the abuse and lack of cleaning.... There is a big difference between a smooth reel and one that "works"..... Out of the box, a Curado doesn't hold a candle to a CORE....

Out the box...Core is better than a Curado....But use them the same about of time with out cleaning and see which one holds up better...... I have only used a Core once..Nice reel but I was talked out of buying one by the Shimano dealer I use.....He said it was not a saltwater friendly as the Curado!!! I have also heard that from other guys......
