We will be toting with it along the gulf coast and maybe further for the next 20 yrs or so. They have recently found oil on the west side from a barge spill that occurred over 2 yrs ago!

Hopefully most of it sunk and became stationary so it will just be silted over. I think that hope is about as good as oBUMa's hope though. This is going to be a long time and broad reaching issue, I believe.

Light ends will evaporate or get eaten by microbes.
Some will get skimmed or absorbed by boats and mops. Rest will become tar balls for the next few years. Hopefully the loop currents will take it to Cuba. |

A buddy of mine thats been working his boat for bp just left the house and he had some interesting things to say. According to him, there were 137 boats working for the same contractor as him(parsons).....friday they laid off all but 14 boats. He also said that almost all of the oil is NOT on the surface anymore, they've been finding it 8-10ft down and there is still massive amounts of it in the MS sound. the skimmers they are currently using only go to a depth of 6ft. He also said that since shrimping was opened back up......shrimpers have been pulling up huge tarballs/crude mixture up with their nets, so i'm not buying this whole "not as bad as they originally thought" nonsense. Its still very bad, and its not going away anytime soon especially since they just removed almost every boat trying to clean this mess. I'm still hoping and praying for a speedy recovery of my most favorite place in the world, but its almost a sure bet that bp is going to "paint a pretty picture" just because you cant see the oil on the surface and pull out way before they've fullfilled their promises.

My only question I have and it shuts w up everytime.
Is there still a moratorium, political impact, or economic impact? He said no one will remember this by august |

Speck D, I think the media did "hype" it up, they put info out there that alot of people took for face value, or what it looked like on the cover. Me and my family went to Destin for a week, the third week of July, and I must say seeing is believing. The beach was beautiful as always, the water was beautiful, as always. There were definitely fewer people there though. This I blame on the main stream media putting out incorrect information, and people not doing their homework and believing them. The economy in Florida should not have had to suffer. I have been going to Florida for 20 years and this year it was no different. Chris, I feel BP and our government did a good job of getting these dispersants spraying as soon as possible, both knew that out of sight is out of mind, with no oil on the surface there is nothing the media can show to promote its doom and gloom, and people stop talking about it and move on. Yak, you are right as for the business and economic aspect is concerned, but I feel the enviromental impact as bad as it was, was not as bad as it was being predicted too be! My 2 cents for what its worth. |

But while you seem to take that comment as the only comment he ever made and as your own personal huckleberry against the man.... I will continue to say he is at the very least 50% right. Talk to folks all over the country most all day long. The rest of the folks around this USA could care less where all the oil went and are damn skippy the almighty chosen one declared it "mostly gone" today. Just like Katrina.....it's over for most folks unless they can make a series on HBO about it. Instead of continuing to beat the "W said it would be gone in August" drum.....we should be exploiting his blind passion for what he believes in and using it to keep the focus on what will take years and perhaps decades to completely manifest it's potential harm. W is the guy that jumped the bicycle ramp first when you was 10 The guy who challenged the bully first when you was 12 the guy who smoked the cigarette first when you was 14 that guy is a guy that will chisel a brick wall with a toothpick if he is directed properly. Never did I agree with everything he took the time to type, but the guy spoke his mind. And put himself out there to be critiqued. |

Jason, it's still there, just mainly below the surface. It'll still wash up for years to come.

I dont think it just disappeared. Thats crazy. But i guess the outta sight outta mind is a huge factor. The media has nil ta say bout it while the cleanup will continue fer years. I am sooooo very happy that these fishermen can get back ta doin what they love. And ill definitely wont forget the eleven people killed. While we try to get back to a life of normalcy , the families will never be over it because they lost loved ones. Pray guys that w is right. Pray that it is all gone. We all know the truth but i cant help but tryin ta put it behind us and move forward. Learn from our mistakes and keep drillin!!!!

The dispersant won't actually make it sink below the surface.
It breaks it up into tiny drops so it will evaporate faster. The thick oil hitting the cold water at 5K feet down and the high pressure down there will form an emulsion with the salt water and oil. That is what is suspended below the surface. If it were in shallow warmer water, most would have made it to the surface. |

Just for the record, FL is leaning on BP! FL was in trouble due to oBUMa-nomics well before this spill ever occurred.
Overpriced timeshares and hotels sent them into a tailspin as soon as the economy tanked! Now, they have someone to sue! Reference?... In-laws that live in the "effected area." Did the spill help?... No. No more than oBUMa saying the recession is over. |
