Default Moments

I have to tell you guys, there are a few moments a year, maybe five if I'm lucky that make the entire season for me.

This year there are a couple already, Quaid's first reteive was my son's first Louisiana Greenhead.
Sunday there were three pintail that came in on a rope, all drakes and we hammered all three with each hunter throwing one volley, that was damn cool.
Sunday also, we had a group of seven widgeon decoy to my sons calling WAY COOL, he didn't even shoot he was so excited.

I no longer hunt for limits.......I hunt for moments..........

Mine this year was during teal season. I watched 2 flyin on the deck comin from a tree line for about a minute. When they finally made it to us I killed both of them in 1 shot. I could have left right then and been fine.

Had one for teal season also. We needed 7 to finish our 3 man limit and sure nuff, flock of 7 slipped over the roseaus. We all shot once and 6 fell at the same time and the guy on the right finished #7 with one more shot. To top it off....one was banded.

Couldn't agree with you more, my nine year old got his first duck on the fly this year, and this past weekend he got two in one shot. I started early trying to teach my boys that it's not always about killing a limit but about the time spent outdoors. To this day, they (9&16) both say without hesitation, if we have a day where we don't kill many, it's OK at least we got a few, and that's what it's all about! I posted this picture already, but here is my boy with his first duck on the fly!

I feel the same way. It floors some guys that I hunt when I tell them It doesn't bother me to not shoot. Watching those big specks give it up does it for me. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy comming up and killing my 2 and watching them both crunch, but for me it's watching them be fooled by me

Nothing like watching 300 wood ducks funnel into your pond with your buddies speechless and dazed as to where to shoot.

Well put Peddler.

Opening morning at Sabine......Nothing going on, no shooting anywhere. I knew it was going to be a slow day. There are 4 hunters hunting, all of us amped up on Red bull and caffeine. Pooping, peeing, sharting and farting. You know how that stuff makes you. I am all the way to the right. Next thing you know a pterodactyl bill sneaks onto us from the right. You know how they do it. Without rhyme or reason they just come in. Well, he glides in from the right. I pull on him, lead about a foot and let one rip from the heavenly maxus. Lightning comes out of the barrel and POOF! Sexual chocolate falls from the sky! My first duck of the season.

It hits me then, duck season has started!
