Default Bon Dieu Falls Rib Cookoff

I entered a rib cookoff in Montgomery, Louisiana. The cookoff was today, there was 11 other pits entered and when the score cards were added, I took 1st place. Wooo Hoo! Got $500 and bragging rights for a year around the home town area. I'll try to get some pics or links posted later. I mix my own rub and only use wood for my fuel. Got a little too much sun, but the pay off was worth it.

Thanks guy's. It was the first cookoff I have entered. It was fun and an experiance. The wind was killer, keeping the heat down in my Brinkman smokin pit. Added more oak and apple wood to it and finally got it up. Two of the judges looked me up afterwards and told me that when they tasted the ribs they told each other that that was the winner, even though they had a few more to sample. They didn't have any names with the plates just numbers that was given to the cooks just before plating the ribs. Try entering a local cook off. If anything, it was enjoyable meeting the other home professionals in my area.

Congratulations. I love smoking on my smoker.
I smoke meat every week when I am home.
I use a propane burner to get my charcoal started,
then use Pecan wood on that. Once the charcoal
goes out, I only use the wood.
I don't like using any kinda lighter fluid to start the
fire.
