Default I Got A New Toy!

As some may notice I like to cook big sometimes. Sometimes chopping seasonings can be time consuming and simply a pain in the neck. Today I recieved something I got a huge deal on. An Easy Chopper. It's basically a big french fry cutter. The one I got cuts 3/8 of an inch square anything from onions to potatoes. I got mine on Ebay.com but you can buy them at any restaurant suppy store. Only problem is they're NOT cheap! UNLESS, you get a deal(I won't say how much I paid though)Like I did.

Is it hard to push it down?

Does it cut a whole onion?

You dont push it down you slam it. You can dice onions and peppers with it. Just slab a pepper 4 sides stack and cut in the press. Peel core and half an onion then its diced in one cut. Its best to use right after cutting. If you use the next day you will lose a lot of liquid from the veggies.

Glad to help. I don't think there isn't a kitchen tool I haven't used.

My Uncle makes big Jambalays like that. He uses one with a handle that has a "V" in it which enables him to dice the whole onion at once. All you do is cut off the top and bottom peel it and stick it int cutter pull the handle and it's cut. Very useful to chop onions. I think his has a 1/4" dice though.

His looks like this.
He can mount it on the wall or flat on a table, one man cleaning onions and one diciing.......you can knock out a 50 lbs onions in under 30 minutes.

I bought one of these from a closed restaurant the other day along with my new fryers. I still need to go pick all that stuff up!

We use this one. It works well but only lasts about a year before it breaks. It's like $10 so no big deal.

the big one makes bigger cubes im pretty sure

we used to have one of them ronco french fry and veggie cutters that worked good but it too broke (leg cracked) after about a year. it was designed more like the metal ones where you pushed straight down on it so there was no lever or hinge to break off.

I cut a piece of plywood to sit it on over a bucket but it just moved around too much and there was no way to attach it

I was looking at whats out there and found $50 aint too bad for a heavy duty quality cutter if you use it regularly, think of the tears you save not chopping onions by hand

there is a cheap one here at harbor freight for only $29 http://www.harborfreight.com/heavy-d...ter-66473.html
don't know if its any good as far as how it works but it looks ok

You my friend hit the nail on the head. Three or four times in the past couple of months while cutting and chopping onions(a lot of onions)they were so strong my eyes were watering and I had to stop to keep from cutting my fingers off.

a trick I use is to run the ceiling fan on high or put a box fan on the counter set on medium or low blowing in from the side, it keeps the fumes from getting to your eyes and I never tear up.

its so easy and works so well I cant believe its not a standard kitchen practice to use. I found out by accident at camp using a fan to cool off and was amazed chopping up the onions did nothing to me
