After watching that video of the boat capsizing the other day, I'd say handheld! I'd wanna make sure that I could keep in contact if that kind of disaster struck!

I agree with you Corey, my only question would be do the hand helds have the some power (reach) as the mounted ones.

I don't know but wouldn't think so.

I have both... Mainly cause my new boat came with one installed but the reception is only as good as your antenna is tall. The handheld is just a backup incase I would ever lose power

The reception is " line of sight" so in the gulf you will get better reception with a handheld than in the marsh. But you with get better reception with a mounted antenna.

Coast guard has towers that will pick you up.....they have the whole gulf covered, antennas everywhere. That's why you can always hear them, but not the person they're talking to...........you say mayday, they got ya.....

Years ago(prior to handheld cells), I bought a Standard Horizon handheld because of hunting Laccasine. Still have it but it needs a battery. Anyone that wants to track down a battery is welcome to it, no charge. I believe SouthShore could probably find a battery for it.

If you guys like maybe we can get a group buy together? That way I can discount them down if we get enough. I will look into it this afternoon. I do this on a couple websites for members.
