Default looking for the best marsh and bay boat

I have a cousin who has decided to buy a boat. he wants to be able to fish breton island but also fish marsh as well. he is looking for something between 22 and 24 feet. he is not worried about money. I have no experience because i fish with a flat boat and the others are out of my price range. he wants the best. I was thinking maybe a ranger/champion/pioneer(i think)/skeeter/yellowfin. I know there are many manufactures to look at. he is looking for something that will last. what are yalls opinion on the top of the line boat manufactures. thanks

champions are not made anymore. Rangers are the heaviest bay boat out there and so while the quality is good they are the slowest. I also dont like the way the interior is laid out.

Also check out the Lake & Bay Backwater 24

If money isn't an option and you want the best, might as well buy a Yellowfin.

Haynie and be done w it. But everyone has their own opinion. Talk to someone who has fished out of every boat out there. It won't have the fit and finish of a ranger, yellowfin, nautic star, triton, champion, lake and bay, or shearwater, but good luck getting any of the previous mentioned boats in some shallow water. With that being said, a haynie will outride any of the previous mentioned boats in rough water, including the gulf. I've fished out of every boat mentioned and i don't own a boat right now, but i'll never buy anything but a haynie when i buy a boat. Besides fit and finish and little things, a haynie will outperform any other boat in any situation. Best all around boat out there.

He needs to ride all the boats on his short list.

Tell your buddy to read this on the YF build philosophy: http://www.soundingsonline.com/news/coastwise/287869

Btw, I have owned an SCB and 3 Shearwaters and 2 Yellowfins since 2005. I have also fished in a new 24 Haynie guide boat.

The YF24 is major league, top drawer in every way. The ride, fit, finish and attention to detail with YF are top notch. Customer service, if needed for any reason, simply makes you thrilled you have a YF. Approximately a 40 week wait on a new build. A few dealers, like Texas Sportfishing Yacht Sales in Kemah, Tx have $s holding new build slots with YF that are shorter than 40 weeks. Resale values are very strong vs all other brands too.

PM me for contact info. I will also happily demo ride my 2013 YF 24 for your cousin in Houston or Grand Isle, LA, after he has ridden in a few others to be fair. So far, everyone who took a demo ride in my YF 24, bought one.

Good luck.

if money is really not a concern look into gause built boats. their 26 will float in a foot of water and take 4 footers with ease. it is the best bay boat built period. if you are willing to drop 100k on a boat you will have the baddest ride around. do some searching on thehulltruth and you will see their reputation is flawless.

I've been in a bunch myself, and feel I still have one of the best, but I will agree with skeeter on this one, YELLOWFIn,YELLOWFIN,YELLOWFIN, all the way!
If money is not an option that is!

Yellowfin, Blackjack are two of the top boats on my opinion. I have a 22' Blazer Bay and it's a nice mid tier boat. They are lots of options for boats. Ride in as many different boats you can and choose. What you want today will not be what you want tomorrow. I have features I want in my next boat I don't have on this one. I plan on getting a 24' next time with a step up to the front deck and maybe a head in the console for the wife.

For the Breton sound area, yellowfin, trition, blue wave all would be fine. If money doesn't matter yellowfin if it does look at the other two. I didn't care for my Haynie in rough big water like you find in the sound, it was a great boat the bays in the big lake system. I now have bought my second blue wave with a yam 300 but money maters to me I wasn't going to write a 100k check for the yellowfin. If you decide to go to a 22 I like the blackjack for that size boat.
