Dularge Fishing

Saturday morning was another bust as we had to cancel our trips due to the bad storms off the coast. However we got a break in the afternoon and Richard Mills and the boys were back on the boats at 3 PM. They wanted to catch big fish and we went straight to Grand Pass for the redfish/blackdrum derby. The competition among the boys was fierce! We would weigh every fish caught per boat before releasing it. The boat with the most weight and most fish at the end of the day would win. We had a slow falling tide at the pass and it was perfect for bottom fishing. The reds and drum cooperated as the youngsters were busy with bent rods & double hook-ups most of the afternoon. 50 plus fish were caught between Capt G's boat and mine. I bet you could have heard the boys whooping it up all the way back to Houma!! The boys caught reds and drum anywhere from 6-35 lbs using crab on the bottom. At 7:15 we had a commanding lead with 258lbs but Capt G made a move and his crew were landing fish after fish and catching up fast. We were neck & neck with only a few lbs separating the 2 boats. We were up by 20 lbs and darkness was approaching and we ran out of bait. They made another cast or 2 and hooked up with a 30 lb plus fish and squeaked out a win at the last second! After a quick supper the crew went out on a fogging trip catching 150 frogs with Brian Arceneaux. I bet the boys had no problem falling asleep last night! Good times with great people!! Good luck fishing.
