Default Bell City Drainage Ditch 2/21/12

Took my youngest son fishing in the Ditch this morning. We were going for Sacs but didnt get a bite with shiners. We switched to night crawlers and found a few blue cats on on the bottom. Gabe caught a 9 pounder on his first cast. His rod wasnt in the holder more than a minute. In an hour we ran out of night crawlers and had to leave them biting. We kept 11 that went over a pound and threw back 4 that were under a pound. Went and checked the weirs and the water was pouring into the reserve. Everyone we talked to running lines and jugs weren't catching anything but one or two on cut bait. Talked to a guy at the landing that had one at 15#, one at 20# and a few more in the 2 to 5# range. He said he was only using chicken livers cuz he couldn't get any cut bait. What luck huh.

Hey their gills were still moving when I fillet them. Sheet the grease was getting hot at the same time. Seasoned with Toney's added a lil la. hot sauce, mustard, mayo then dusted with jalapeno corn bread mix. Dropped them in some hot oil and it was on. They was eaten before dark. Fed everybody and their brother before the parade.

I have never been to the Bell City Drainage Ditch.

Where is the water coming from that is "boiling" in the first picture.

You also said that water was going in at the wiers to the Reserve. Is this water going into the Lacassine Pool?

Thats one in the same. That is a pump pumping water out of the marsh west of the reserve or Laccassine refuge. Back in the old days we called it the reserve. As a kid I use to fish it back when a 9.9 was the max hp allowed and you had to use the rollers. We would use the north rollers off Laccassine Bayou. To fish then involved a push pole cuz a trollig motor was useless. In those days you could fish all day and not see another boat.

That is going into the Drain Ditch not the Pool. The weirs are open and its gravity feeding into the pool. The water flowing into the pool is 10 times the volumn of what that pump is pumping.
