Default ReelX

Capt. Bill Lake told me several years ago that was what he uses. I've been using it since then.

i find hot sauce works best. have to remember to degrease the bearings before re-oiling. adding more oil to old dirty oil will make it 10x worse. when you put new oil dont put more than 2 drops per bearing i put one with hot sauce. washing rods and reels with fresh water helps but if you dont clean your reels at least once a year they will corrode quick.

#1 Reason....Traps water
#2 Reason....Pushes Saltwater deeper
#3 Reason....Add moisture inside moving parts
#4 Reason....Rust
Whats the best thing to do after a fishing trip? I have always just sprayed them with a hose minimizing the direct shot to the reels.

Nothing.....if you want whip down with light wet rag ....

I never do anything with mine.... I might hit them with reel magic spray.....

I clean my reels once a year ...

Have one core I have used for 2 years now and just changed all the bearing a month ago...

One other thing that the Shimano maintenance tips didn't mention is to clean and oil the roller bearing in the side plate. The rollers are stainless but there are some springs inside that can rust and stick and the handle will turn backwards.

I will clean and repair for 20.00 plus parts. This week will change to ceramic for same price as standard bearings while supply last.

I had 2 Cores get holes in the frames in less than 6 months. I sent them back to Shimano and they said there warranty does not cover corrosion. They did however do a one time swap for new reels that I sold. Curado is the only baitcaster I will use in saltwater. And yes I clean my reels. Every 3rd trip or so I break them down to there smallest parts, clean, oil and reassemble. I pretty sure it was all the wade fishing that got the Cores.

Reel Magic will remove greese and protective coatings. Like any penetrating oil it has things in it that make it harmful to the life of your parts.

My oldest Core has an area when you open to your breaks that is corroided a little but all the rest are fine....But I dont wade with them either

the instructions manual that came with my last chronarch said to lightly mist outside of reel with fresh water to remove salt before lightly oiling

i don't hose the reel hard, mostly just the rod

i find reel magic makes fluorocarbon brittle. i started spraying the line when reels were put up to keep the line limp. made cx premium brittle and lots of memory. regular mono it works great.

I hear a new chronarch is coming out. I plan to give one a try. I may even try some Boca Bearnings with UDL. Its a lube coating that requires no oil. As long as the seal keeps the saltwater out it should work great.
