Default Offshore Venice La

The fishing continues to be fantastic off venice la with plenty of yf biting the dust everyday and the fish continue to stay in fairly close In the last month I only fished past 30 miles a few times with most of the fish being in the 15-25 mile range. The whale sharks have showed up as well and we have had some monstrous schools of tuna following them around with the biggest I saw about a three acre school of 50-60 pound yf with some big boys mixed in. The best we got on topwater was a 115 yf caught on a frenzy popper in open water. The live bait choices now are pogies, threadfin, hardtails and disco minnows. I have mostly been using 60 pound frenzy flouro with 7/0 circle hooks but the fish were aggressive enough sometimes to use 80 pound flouro. I havent been chumming much recently but with the fish being as aggressive as they have been chum isnt very effective on them.

The open water schools have been awesome for topwater fishing and we have skull dragged the tuna with frenzy poppers a few days.

The amberjacks have been chewing on jigs and live bait since the season opened at most of the rigs between 250-400 feet of water.

The dolphin continue to be slow this year and Im guessing that wont change but with the amount of tuna around I havent put much thought into why it was such a slow dolphin year for us.

One thing about this summer is the amount of quality fish around. I have been running into 100 pound plus fish on a consistent basis and we even had one day with 4 over 100 in the boat and that is pretty rare for the summer.

with the start of school were starting to slow down a little bit which is ok since I fished a ton this summer. Looking forward to a great falla and hopefully a successful shrimpboat season with the super stud yfs.

We are headed to Grand Ilse Friday. We are rookies at Tuna. Any advice on what places would be best to go to. We have a 32 ft Proline just dont feel like making a long run.
