I use 12ld suffix mono, or 12ld xps flouro, for baitcaster, I cut off about 25 yard of the flouro every other fishing trip so it doesn't break off, or if it has a kink I cut it off at the kink. not a fan of flouro but it does help when bass fishing. I don't use braid too much but i'll use the suffix braid or power pro, or tuffline, I don't like spider wire braid. I only use braid on spinning reels. and 20ld is plenty.

For trout, reds, flounder - 12 lb big game green with a 20 lb P Line clear flourocarbon leader. The flouro leader let's you catch a lot of fish and you don't have to worry about your line fraying. Also cheaper than spooling the whole reel with flouro.

You read my mind. I tried using a leader before and I did not like it because of the knot. Tried a swivel and it pulled my topwaters under.
